All About George: Celebrate Washington on Presidents’ Day!
Monday, February 18, 2013
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Celebrate our country's first President at Tudor Place, whose collections include the largest assemblage of Washington artifacts outside Mt. Vernon. Visitors will enjoy self-guided tours through the entertaining rooms of the historic mansion and a special exhibit of rare Washington-related objects. These include George Washington's 1775 letter to Martha Washington, one of only three such letters known to exist. Written on the eve of his departure from Philadelphia to take command of the Continental Army, the missive reveals the human and sentimental side of this revered hero. After touring at their own pace, families can enjoy 18th century gaming, dancing, and crafts led by costumed interpreters.

Tudor Place Historic House and Garden
Tudor Place Foundation operates a historic property located in the heart of Washington’s Georgetown area. Firmly rooted in the community, Tudor Place Foundation’s mission is to educate the public about American history and culture. Its focus is on the historical development of the Federal City and the Nation’s Capitol Region from the 18th century as seen through the lens of Tudor Place, home of Martha Washington’s granddaughter and six generations of her descendants, the Custis-Peter family. The Foundation is committed to protecting, preserving, maintaining, and interpreting the historic property and the collections, while instilling the value of the past in the public perception.
